The CE certification or CE marking (also known as CE mark) of a toy is a mandatory conformity mark on toys on the market in the European Economic Area. By certifying the CE marking to a toy, the manufacturer, company or person placing the toy on the market asserts that the toy meets all the essential health and safety requirements for the market in the European Union set out in the European Directive(s) for toys. Proof of the CE certification or CE marking of a toy, this means proof that the toy meets the relevant health and safety requirements, must be documented by the manufacturer, the company or the person placing the toy in the market.

 

Is CE certification or CE marking of a toy mandatory in the European Union?

Yes, the CE certification or CE marking of a toy is mandatory in the European Union. Without the CE certification or CE marking a toy can not be sold in the European Economic Area. Therefore, the CE certification or CE marking can be seen as the passport of the toy: without this CE marking or CE certification passport, the toy can not enter the market of the European Economic Area.

You can recognize the CE certification or CE marking of a toy if the CE mark is placed on the toy or on the packaging of the toy. The CE mark must not be less than 5mm in its vertical height, and the proportions needs to be maintained.
